Waker Spence signs to play basketball with Montreat

On Thursday, July 28, the CDS community gathered together in the Nash Athletic Center to witness recent graduate Waker Spence ’22 sign his national letter of intent with the Montreat College Cavaliers basketball team. Waker’s friends, family, teammates, and coaches were joined by Montreat College’s head basketball coach, Garret Jones.

CDS basketball coach Tyler Howard expressed his gratitude at having been Waker’s coach since he was a freshman. “I remember when I first saw Waker, our coaches all said that this kid would play college basketball one day. It’s been a joy to watch a young 9th grader become a man and to have been involved in a small part of that journey.” Waker’s perseverance, leadership, and hard work embody the spirit of what it means to be a Wildcat.
